Nolan keen to take his opportunity

22 January 2021

Walsall winger Jack Nolan is keen to grasp every opportunity he gets and build on his two promising performances against Oldham Athletic and Morecambe.

The winger made his first start in a Saddlers shirt against the Latics last week and put in an impressive display.

Nolan has found game time hard to come by this season but was pleased to play back-to-back games.

“It’s been really good,” Nolan said.

“I’ve not played for a long time so it was important for me to get some minutes in.

"It’s probably the first time in the last two years that I’ve played two games on the bounce within a week since my long-term injury so on a personal level that was great as well but it was nice to get in amongst it with the lads as well. I thought I did OK but there’s still room for improvement.

“I’ll just keep everything ticking and every opportunity I get, I’ll take it.

“Whether that’s creating goals, creating chances or whatever it may be. For me, I’m still young so every time I get a chance to play, I just want to go and enjoy myself and take the opportunity.

“League Two, League One and even the Championship, there’s loads of games. Obviously with the coronavirus and what’s happened in the world, there’s two or three games most weeks and it’s a big ask for anyone.

"Before November, it was 10 games in the space of six weeks which was a massive commitment to have but it’s great opportunities for everyone so I think it’s a good time for a young lad coming through because the games are coming thick and fast.”

The Saddlers travel to Port Vale tomorrow where they will be looking to complete the double after edging out a 4-3 thriller back in December.

Nolan insists the team will be prepared for the challenge and feels a victory would cap off a solid week.

“Obviously, it’s a local game and big for the Walsall fans. We’ve drawn our last two games so if we can go and win that and come away with five points in the week, I think that’s a good turnout.

“It’s like any game, we prepare for what they’ll bring to the table and just go from there.”
