Clarke: "Wright gives us options"

15 January 2021

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke feels new signing Tyreik Wright will add quality in the wide areas to the team.

The 19-year-old joined on loan from Aston Villa on Wednesday as he embarks on his first loan move in senior football.

Clarke was pleased to add Wright to his squad who will be able to provide him with different options.

"He'll give us options in a 4-3-3 and 4-4-2 on the right coming inside on his left foot. He can also play on the left side,” Clarke said.

"It gives us another wide option.

"He's a young boy and it's his first loan but we'd like to thank Villa for allowing us to take one of their youngsters.

"He's untried and untested but hopefully he'll add a bit of quality in those wide areas.”

Clarke’s side return to action after a two-week break tomorrow afternoon when they take on Oldham Athletic at the Banks’s Stadium.

The Saddlers boss was pleased to get a solid week of training into the boys but was also left frustrated after suffering a few setbacks.

"We've had a bit more bad luck, quite a few players have picked up a few injuries,” Clarke revealed.

"It's been a good two weeks because we obviously got some good work into the players but it's also disappointing to pick up a couple injuries but it'll give one or two of our younger boys the opportunity to come and impress and stake their claim.

"One or two that have maybe been unfortunate that they've not had the chance yet this season.”
