Bates hopes break has provided the team a good reset

15 January 2021

Walsall midfielder Alfie Bates felt that the two-week break has given the team a good chance to reset.

The Saddlers will be looking to bounce back and return to winning ways when they take on Oldham Athletic at the Banks’s Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

Walsall claimed a 3-2 victory at Boundary Park in the reverse back in December, a game Bates was buzzing to be involved in and he hopes that the recent break has benefitted the team as they look to do the double over the Latics.

“We said when we came off, we need to get back on the training ground,” Bates said.

“We’ve got a week’s break and we need to reset, go again and try and get the three points.

“It was like a basketball match really (last time against Oldham), end to end sort of stuff really but it was good to be involved and a brilliant feeling to get the three points.”

Bates recently signed a new contract with the club and was delighted to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

He is keen to continue his development and play his part for the Saddlers, particularly for the remainder of this season.

“I’m buzzing to get the contract done and I can’t wait to play Saturday’s game and a few in the near future.

“I’m still a young lad and I’m still developing and it’s good to get that reward, I’ve played a few games and I’m ready to play a lot more.

“This club is close to my heart, they gave me my chance at 15/16 to kick on and go from there, I’m not looking back and not resting on my laurels.”
