Alfie Bates signs new contract

5 January 2021

Walsall Football Club are delighted to announce that midfielder Alfie Bates has signed a new contract with the club until 2023.

The 19-year-old has made 46 appearances for the Saddlers in all competitions since he made his first team debut against Middlesbrough Under 21s in October 2018.

Bates has two goals to his name, scoring in the Emirates FA Cup against Darlington and away at Scunthorpe United during the 2019/20 season.

The midfielder was pleased to commit his future to the club and is excited for the journey that lies ahead.

“I’m delighted to sign a new deal,” said Bates.

“Walsall is where I want to be and Walsall is where I want to play my football.

“It’s been an up and down season for us and the fans but I’m looking forward to going into the second half of the season strongly.

“My ambitions and the club’s ambitions are the same. We want to get promotion and get as many wins under our belt and keep pushing on and pushing the club forward.”

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke was also happy to see Bates sign a new deal.

“We’re really pleased Alfie has signed a new contract with the club,” he said.

“He’s still a young player who’s developing well having come through the Academy and he’s a great lad to work with.”
