Osei Yaw excited by Walsall project

9 February 2021

New signing Derick Osei Yaw is looking forward to embarking on Walsall’s project for the remainder of the season.

The striker joined on loan from League One side Oxford United on transfer deadline day and will be hoping to make his Saddlers debut tonight against Mansfield Town.

Osei Yaw has already netted at the Banks’s Stadium as he scored the winner for Oxford in their 1-0 victory over Darrell Clarke’s side in the Papa John’s Trophy back in November.

After apologising to the Saddlers fans for scoring against the club he has now joined, Osei Yaw is hoping to make an impact to the team and is excited by the club’s project.

“I’m very happy to be here,” he said.

“I spoke to Oxford and the gaffer said he’d love me to go on loan and play games, get some experience. Walsall is a good project for me with young lads and a very good team so I’m very happy.

“I hope to score a lot of goals, win as many games as possible for the team and achieve our goal.

“I’m sorry to the Saddlers fans that I scored here but now we are together, hopefully I’ll score a lot of goals for the club.”

The 22-year-old has had a warm welcome since arriving on deadline day and has felt confidence from staff and teammates.

He’s got a handful of different attributes he can bring to the team and gave Saddlers fans a flavour of what he can bring to the table.

“I am a quick player, I love to run and play with my teammates,” he revealed.

“I’m comfortable technically and physically I’m good. I’m a player of the new generation. I’m fast, I’m quick and I can score goals and I love to play with my teammates.”

“First of all I have to give back the confidence the club have gave to me and help my team. The first goal for me is to score goals, make assists and enjoy myself.”

Osei Yaw could be involved when the Saddlers host Mansfield Town tonight.
