Saddlers Head Coach Brian Dutton was disappointed to see his reign at the club start with a defeat against Cheltenham Town but is looking forward to working hard to pick up some positive results.
Despite a dream start in his opening game where his side took the lead after three minutes thanks to a glorious finish from Caolan Lavery, the visiting side completed a first half turnaround with goals from Sam Smith and Callum Wright being enough to earn them all three points at the Banks’s Stadium.
And upon reflection of the defeat, Dutton admitted that his side found it difficult to get a foothold in the game despite the early goal.
“It was a game of two halves,” explained Dutton.
“We got the early goal but Cheltenham dominated the first half with the possession. We found it difficult to get a good press on them, which allowed them territory into our half.
“I didn’t think they were causing us many problems with the territory they managed to get but we’ve given them a goal and then it’s poor defending for the second one.
“I’m disappointed with the goals we conceded. Disappointed that we weren’t more aggressive out of possession in the first half but delighted with the response second half.
"That tempo is always there with these boys. They're honest as the day is long.
"Now we have to try and bridge the gap with the attacking patterns and how we want them to look and try and get some results on the board.”
