Earing up for cup run

3 December 2021

Walsall midfielder Jack Earing is keen to put past cup experiences behind him and have a good run in the Emirates FA Cup.

The Saddlers entertain Swindon Town on Saturday and will be aiming to progress to the Third Round of the competition.

The 22-year-old is looking forward to getting back to the Banks’s Stadium and insists cup progress is important to everyone in the squad.

“It means a lot to everyone,” he said.

“It’s such a prestigious competition. In my career I’ve not had the best of runs in it so I’m looking forward to the game and hopefully progressing into the next round and getting a big fish.

“We all want to play them games, it’s what you sign up to do in football - to play in big games but the task is Saturday and we have to get through Saturday and we’ll be preparing for that.

“We’re know they’re a top side, they like to get the ball down and play. They’ve got some good technical players but so do we. I think it will be a good game, a physical game and hopefully a lot of quality on show.

“There’s going to be a big crowd there which we’re all looking forward to but it’s always nice to play at home with the support we have so hopefully we get a win which we need to get under our belt at home in front of the supporters.”

Earing has played 24 times for the Saddlers so far this season and has two goals to his name.

He’s played in a couple of roles in the midfield and is enjoying life in the West Midlands.

“I’m loving it and I’m just enjoying playing week in, week out,” he commented.

“I’m thankful to the gaffer for trusting me. I feel like I’m getting more confident with every game, wherever I’m playing. Wherever I’m playing I’ll give 110 per cent.”
