Taylor: "I still have belief in these players"

16 August 2021

Walsall Head Coach Matt Taylor still has full belief that his team can be successful this season despite a frustrating start to the new campaign.

The Saddlers will be looking to pick up their first points of the new campaign against Scunthorpe United at the Banks’s Stadium tonight.

Taylor admitted tonight’s match is an important one but he has confidence in his players and hopes they will show faith in themselves on the pitch.

“I am still in firm belief that these players have enough to be successful this season,” Taylor said.

"That is 100 per cent my feeling. Now, I’m asking them to have that belief. It’s great that they have that belief but they now need to show it on the pitch.

"We now go into the third league game of the season tonight and one, let’s be honest about the situation, because we haven’t picked up any points from the first two games so it becomes an extremely important game for us.

“The players are very lucky because they’ve got an opportunity to put it right.

“You know having been in their position many times myself that football is a relentless game.

“What’s important when things are going well, try not to get too high and maybe when things aren’t as well as you’d like, try not to get too low.

“The players were hurting and so am I. Our fans came out and supported us and we couldn’t give them a positive result to go home with.”

Tickets are still available for tonight’s encounter against Scunthorpe at the Banks’s Stadium.
