Ash Taylor delighted with Saddlers support

6 August 2021

Walsall defender Ash Taylor can’t wait for the season opener against Tranmere and is looking forward to playing in front of a packed-out away end.

Well over 1,200 Saddlers fans have purchased tickets as excitement builds for the new campaign.

Taylor is grateful for the backing from the supporters and is excited for the game.

“It is fantastic that they have sold that many tickets so quickly because I know we have had some trouble getting the tickets,” he said.

“It has been pleasing to see that they are fully on board for the game and it will be nice to have the atmosphere. I am sure Tranmere will sell quite a few but with our away fans, it’s going to be an exciting game and to be playing in front of a big crowd again will be pleasing.”

Matt Taylor’s side will be looking to get off to a positive start and build some momentum at Prenton Park against a Tranmere side who finished in the play-off places last season.

Micky Mellon is back at the helm after returning to the club from Dundee United in the summer.

Taylor is expecting them to be a tough nut to crack but feels it will be a good contest.

“It is going to be a good game,” he commented.

“I am expecting them to be very rigid and very solid as I have played against Micky Mellon’s teams before when he was up at Dundee and the way he sets them up, they are very hard to break down and hard to beat as well and they carry a threat as well.

“I am expecting a difficult game. They are very experienced at this level; they have won promotions before and it is going to be a very good game but it is something that we are looking forward to going in to.

“Everyone wants to get those three points at the start of the season as it sets you up for start of the season going into the following games. It builds confidence and the quicker you build that confidence and the momentum, that is very important in football.

“Every team at the start of the season will be looking at that and hopefully we can get those three points.”

Tickets for tomorrow's match have now gone off sale.

Saddlers fans will be able to purchase on the day at Tranmere but please note there is a £3 increase.

If your tickets haven't arrived please notify the Ticket Office by 3pm (Friday 6th August) to request a re-print and collection at Tranmere.
