Perry keen to build on Scunthorpe victory

30 April 2021

Walsall midfielder Sam Perry is aiming to build on last week’s victory over Scunthorpe United when the Saddlers take on Morecambe tomorrow afternoon.

Brian Dutton’s side host the Shrimps in their final home game of the season and will be looking to end on a positive.

Morecambe will be looking for a victory to keep their hopes of automatic promotion alive should Bolton Wanderers slip up but Perry insists the Saddlers will be focused on themselves as they look to record back-to-back wins.

“We know Morecambe’s going to be a tough test but we’ve just got to play our game and not concentrate on them,” he said.

“We’ve got to go there, play our game and hopefully pick up the three points.

“From last weekend, we need to go and win this weekend and get two wins on the bounce because that’s going to help us massively going into next season as well.”

Perry has been in fine form since making his league debut in February having featured 14 times under Dutton’s stewardship.

The 19-year-old has been pleased to see young players rewarded with opportunities and he is keen to maintain his performance levels.

“I need to repay this to the gaffer and keep performing on the pitch because that’s what’s going to keep me in the team. He’s giving me all the confidence he can give me and I’m performing on the pitch so it’s going well at the moment.

“The gaffer is going to give the young lads an opportunity and all of them have deserved their debuts. Joe as well, coming back from a bad injury and for him to make is debut is brilliant. Hopefully in the next two games he can get more minutes and kick on.”
