Match Report: Scunthorpe United 0-2 Walsall

24 April 2021

The Saddlers secured a fantastic away win against Scunthorpe United as first half goals from Emmanuel Osadebe and Josh Gordon wrapped up all three points for Brian Dutton’s side.

In a game where the Saddlers were in the ascendancy from the first whistle, they took the lead after just 13 minutes as Osadebe switched the ball over the Hayden White who had made a great run beyond his fellow full-back before dinking it to the back post where Osadebe had made a late run into the box and he was able to power the header home into the back of the net.

And the team didn’t stop there as 10 minutes later they doubled their lead as Gordon scored his first goal for the club since the middle of January.

Osadebe put the ball down for a free-kick and delivered it low into the box where Gordon did superbly to control it on the turn before smashing it past Mark Howard in the United goal.

Into the second half and Aston Villa loanee Tyreik Wright really sprung into life with the vast majority of the bright play for the Saddlers coming through the right winger.

After just seven minutes in the second half, Wright cut inside form the wing and tried his luck from distance on his left foot but Howard was able to tip it round the post fairy easily.

With just over 15 minutes left to play in the second half, it looked as thought the Saddlers had a third goal when James Clarke met a corner from Osadebe but his flick-on was inches wide of the far post.

Moments later and again it looked as though the Saddlers were destined to get their third goal with more great work from Osadebe as he pulled the ball back onto the penalty spot where Wright was unmarked but his shot just bobbled into the arms of Howard who was placed just right in the centre of his goal.

In the closing stages of the game, the ball fell kindly for Dan Scarr at the far post and the defender controlled it well but his powerful effort was well saved by Howard down low and that was the end of the action and the Saddlers walked away with all three points.
