Match Report: Leyton Orient 0-0 Walsall

5 April 2021

Walsall recorded their fourth successive draw as they played out a goalless draw away at Leyton Orient.

The Saddlers saw plenty of the ball at the Breyer Group Stadium but were unable to turn their possession into goals against a stubborn Orient side.

Brian Dutton made two changes to the team that drew 0-0 with Harrogate Town on Good Friday.

Jack Rose started for the first time since December in place of Liam Roberts while Hayden White returned to the side after completing his three-match suspension while Alfie Bates dropped out.

The Saddlers made a positive start and played some nice passing football in the opening exchanges which led to a couple of half chances for Mat Sadler and Emmanuel Osadebe.

The game settled down after that fast start. Max Melbourne found himself in the book after he was penalised for a handball.

There was very little goalmouth action in the first half as both sides struggled to gain a foothold.

Walsall ended the first half on top and had a couple more half chances through Sam Perry and Tyreik Wright but they didn’t test Lawrence Vigouroux.

The Saddlers were dealt a blow at the end of the first half as Caolan Lavery was forced off with an injury and replaced by Rory Holden and that concluded the first half action.

Walsall enjoyed the majority of the possession early in the second half but still struggled to create many clear-cut opportunities.

Wright tried his luck from 25 yards on 61 minutes from 25 yards but his effort trickled wide.

Orient produced very little in an attacking sense. Their first threatening moment of the second half saw Dan Kemp have a shot blocked on 70 miniutes.

It was still Dutton’s side though who saw the majority of the ball but it wasn’t quite clicking in the final third.

After some good link up play between Osadebe and Holden, the later found himself in a good position to cross and he played in a dangerous looking ball but it was well gathered by Lawrence Vigouroux.

Dutton introduced Derick Osei Yaw for Gordon on 88 minutes to add more fresh legs up front.

That was the last of the action at the Breyer Group Stadium as the game finished goalless.

Rose; White, Clarke, Sadler, Melbourne; Wright, Perry, Kinsella, Osadebe, Lavery (Holden 45’), Gordon (Osei Yaw 88’)
Subs: Roberts, Norman, McDonald, Leak, Vincent
