Leak looks ahead to Colchester trip

16 April 2021

Walsall defender Tom Leak insists the players will need to show fight and win their battles when they take on Colchester United tomorrow.

The Saddlers will be looking for their third win on the bounce when they travel to the Jobserve Community Stadium for a 5.30pm kick-off.

Colchester are currently 22nd in Sky Bet League Two and he’s expecting The U's to be fighting for their lives which makes for a tough test.

“There’s never going to be an easy game,” Leak said.

“it’s going to be a tough one for us. All we can do is go out there, give everything and win our battles and match their fight because they’re going to be fighting.

“Match that and then add our quality that they can do and score some goals and hopefully win the game.

“They’re down there, we were down there and we know what it’s like to be in that situation where you’re still fighting to stay in the league and they’ll be giving everything every minute of the game to try and win the game so we’ve got to match that and add our bits of quality in attacking areas and hopefully it’s enough to win the game.”

The 20-year-old has now made four first team appearances and felt he’s done well in the games he has featured in.

He was pleased to be given his third start against Tranmere on Tuesday and he is keen to grab any opportunity he gets with both hands.

“Whenever the gaffer gives me the opportunity, it’s down to me to take it. Every time I’m on the pitch, just give everything that I can and take the opportunity I’m given.

“It was a good opportunity to start the game on Tuesday, obviously the gaffer had to make a tactical change at half time and it paid off because we went on to get the three points but I felt it was another good performance from myself, I felt comfortable in the game so I was pleased.”
