Tom Leak left disappointed following Central League defeat against Huddersfield

23 September 2020

Saddlers defender Tom Leak was left disappointed following the 3-2 defeat to Huddersfield Town in the Central League on Tuesday afternoon.

The 19-year-old played his first 90 minutes in just over a month against the Terriers and despite a valiant performance which saw Jack Nolan and Jayden John get on the scoresheet, it wasn’t enough to start on a positive note.

“I am a bit disappointed with the result but it is good to get the minutes in,” said Leak.

“I am disappointed with the goals we conceded. We need to stay switched on and keep our concentration because we let ourselves down a bit.

“We all want to be winners at the end of the day. We are in a league so we need to pick up points and it is disappointing that we haven’t been able to put three points on the board.”

Player-Coach Mat Sadler took charge of the match against Huddersfield and Leak revealed that he has been benefiting from having an experienced pro like Sadler by his side since he returned to training in August.

“Mat has been really good with me ever since he took on the role,” Leak continued.

“He has constantly been offering me advice and I watch the games back with him to see where I can improve.

“He gives me his perspective on things that I could have done better in the game and that is only a good thing for me.

“He has been really good with us younger professionals, especially when we have picked up minutes with the first team during preseason because he is always offering us advice during matches and training.

“He is a really good talker so that can only benefit us.”
