Walsall Ladies’ latest recruit Jo Sheerin has expressed her sheer delight after joining the Saddlers’ management team.
Sheerin, a UEFA B coach, has linked up with Donna Simpson-Ash to take charge of first team affairs as joint first-team manager and is looking forward to getting started in her new surroundings.
“I’m delighted to be joining the Walsall Ladies team,” said Sheerin.
“Football is a key part of my life and I’m really happy that the opportunity came along when it did. I genuinely feel excited and proud to be joining such a high-profile local club and I can’t wait to get going and become an integral part of the management team.”
Sheerin, who has coached at a variety of levels since hanging up her boots, played for Walsall Ladies alongside Simpson-Ash over 15 years ago and insisted that it didn’t take much convincing for her to link up with her former teammate.
“Myself and Donna have had a great friendship on and off the pitch since we represented Walsall Ladies some years ago and over the last few years, I have built a good footballing relationship with the club and the Chairman,” she added.
“I was invited to a committee meeting recently where we spoke about how I could be involved within the Ladies setup and the long-term vision of the club and after these discussions I knew instantly that this was the place for me to be. The manager shares the same passion as myself for the women’s game and is eager to succeed so it didn’t take much convincing for me to join the club.”
Having endured a difficult start to the 2020/21 Season, Sheerin is hopeful that the Ladies can kick on when football returns and put their stamp on the division.
“Having only seen one first team game and training session at present before the national lockdown, it is clear to see that we have some extremely talented players at our disposal,” added Sheerin.
“The team have had a challenging start to the new campaign following promotion last season which was expected and it’s obviously disappointing to see where we currently sit in the league table.
“The last game against Coventry City where we bounced back with great character to earn our first point of the season was a huge positive for us and showed what the team is all about and once we get the green light to return to the training pitch, we will be looking to build on this and take points from every game; something which I believe is more than achievable with the right work ethic and mentality.”
