Jack Rose: "When the manager calls on me, I'll be ready"

12 November 2020

Walsall goalkeeper Jack Rose is eyeing more league appearances and insists he is ready to take his opportunity when he is called upon.

The 25-year-old has made three appearances so far this season in the Papa John’s Trophy, including Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to League One Oxford United.

Rose is keen to challenge fellow goalkeeper Liam Roberts for a place in the starting XI in the league and has set out his stall to try and earn the number one spot.

“That’s what everyone is here to do, they want to play as many games as they can and whenever the gaffer calls on me to play, I’ll be ready,” said Rose.

“I haven’t played as much as I want to but when the gaffer wants me to play I’m there and I want to play.

“I’ve just been focusing and it’s down to the gaffer and he’ll put in whoever he thinks is right for the job.”

The Saddlers now turn their attentions to this weekend’s game against Southend United who are currently bottom of Sky Bet League Two.

Rose insists they won’t be taking the Shrimpers lightly and has stressed that the team are focused on the next challenge.

“We’re only taking every game as it comes,” he commented.  “All you can do is beat what’s in front of you. All you can do is beat what’s in front of you and every team, no matter who you are whether your top of the table or bottom of the table, you always look to beat who is in front of you so our thoughts go to Southend and to hopefully get three points.”

“Especially in League Two and League One, any team can beat anyone and that’s why you have to stay concentrated and respect every team that is put in front of you.”
