A message from Chairman Leigh Pomlett

13 November 2020

Walsall Chairman Leigh Pomlett has addressed Saddlers fans with the below message.

You will have seen in recent press coverage of the EFL that a number of clubs are not in a position to pay their wages in November. Although it is a difficult and challenging time be assured we are not one of those clubs.

Again, I want to put on record, my thanks for the support we have received from the fan base for leaving cash in the business through season tickets. This has been vital to the continuing functioning of our club. Some supporters have made contributions over and above season tickets. This has been very welcome.

As you may have seen in the media, EFL continue their negotiations with the Premier league to conclude a financial support package for clubs outside of the Premier League. I would expect this now to be concluded in November. This will not solve anything but I anticipate this easing the financial challenges we face.

You may have also seen former Walsall player Maz Kouhyar's recent interview in the media about the allegations of racial abuse towards him.

As a club we have always prided ourselves on being all inclusive.

We have reached out to him and we will be sitting down next week to deal with his concerns and support him in the best way that we can. Discrimination of any form will not be tolerated here at Walsall Football Club.

On the pitch, I am sure we are all disappointed that we are no longer involved in Cup competitions. It is often said this will allow us to concentrate on the league.

Frankly in the past I have never been convinced by this argument but to be honest with a very compressed season, a smaller squad than in previous years and a few key injuries, this will genuinely help us to focus on the target that really matters which is to be a league one club next year.

We now have very important league games beginning with Southend United at home.

Please continue to stick with us to get through this very difficult season.

Leigh.
