Walsall FC Community Programme Coronavirus update

1 May 2020

In line with decisions being made by many businesses and charities at this time, our Community Programme is currently working hard to remain active and manage their way through the current situation the country finds itself in.

The scheme who, launched their Annual Report for 2019, is currently operating on a skeleton workforce. Community Director, Adam Davy, spoke to us regarding the current situation:

"The majority, if not nearly all, of our work requires us to deliver in schools and sporting environments. Both of these were closed as part of the government lockdown and left our staff redundant with regard to session delivery. As a result we have made the decision to furlough a number of our delivery staff and operate on a skeleton work force. I've been managing finances closely as we currently have no income. With the support of the Trustees, who I have weekly dialogue with, we are on top of everything as best we can be at this moment."

"It is important that we still try to engage with our participants and supporters during this time and we are doing this, like most people, thanks to technology, video calls and social media. The response has been brilliant and it's been great to stay in touch with participants from our programmes."

Daniel Mole, who is the Chair of the Walsall FCCP Board of Trustees, added: "Now that everyone has settled in to what is currently the new normal of social distancing, we have been able to focus on an exit strategy and how we can plan a return to work when it is safe to do so. It is a work in progress but we are determined to come out the other side and resume delivery as soon as we can, most likely with social distancing measures still in place to begin with.

"In December 2019 we celebrated 30 years as the charity for Walsall FC. We have every intention of looking forward to another 30 years of delivery, and more, as soon as possible. We plan to come through this period, to return to work and ensure that Walsall FC continues to have the impact we have across the town."
