Banks's Stadium pitch renovation

14 May 2020

Walsall Football Club can confirm that renovation work is taking place on the Banks's Stadium pitch and the training ground.

With football postponed currently, the Club took the decision some weeks ago to begin the renovation process and the surface has now been renovated and the growing phase is now well underway.

Soeaking last week on a Zoom conference call with Chairman Leigh Pomlett, CEO Stefan Gamble and first-team manager Darrell Clarke, COO Dan Mole confirm that the pitch was being worked on by the groundstaff.

With no set return date for football as of yet, the club moved to renovate the pitch, along with other pitch work at the training ground, in order to utilise the prolonged absence of matches and training.

"The Executive Board, myself, Leigh and Stef spoke with Darrell about what we would like to achieve both at the stadium and at the training ground before COVID-19 and that plan is very much different to the plan that we have got in place now," said Mole.

"However, work is taking place at the training ground and at the stadium as we speak and, as and when football does return, we will have a first class surface.

"We have gone about a renovation process on the pitch simply because we weren't sure when we would have had this opportunity again. We wanted to be ahead of the game and now, after weeks of hard work, we are.

"We took the decision to start the work early. There has been some excellent word done by our groundsmen and third party contractors who have come into the stadium, scarified the surface, reseeded ot and we're regrowing the pitch. It's almost completely regrown thanks to the plan we put in place coupled with some superb 'growing weather' in recent weeks.

"Whenever football does return, whether that's the end of the 2019/20 season or the 2020/21 campaign or an amalgamation of both, we will have a new playing surface at the stadium that will see us through until pre-season 2021."
