Saddlers well prepared for Exeter clash says Clarke

6 March 2020

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke says his side are well prepared for the challenge of Exeter City as they look to build on their last two results at the Banks’s Stadium.

The Saddlers are set to return to action after last week’s game at Stevenage was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The squad have had a solid week on the training field ahead of Exeter’s visit and Clarke is keen to get another positive result against a promotion chasing team.

"We've had Northampton and Port Vale come here in the last two home games and the performances have been good - we have to look to build on that,” said Clarke.

"With Exeter, Matt Taylor has been there a while now and has the platform of his squad together.

"They deserve all the plaudits for their consistency this season, but like any team in this division, and they'll know this too, anyone can give you a good game.

"We probably come into the game as slight underdogs as they're fighting for automatic promotion but it's a game we're looking forward to and we're prepared well for.

Walsall have 11 games left to play this season and will be aiming to finish as high as possible in the Sky Bet League Two table.

Clarke has been pleased with the work rate from his team this season and has now called on the squad to produce the same quality they showed against Northampton Town and Port Vale.

"My lads have been honest as the day all season,” Clarke stated.

"Has the quality been good at times? No.

"Have we been getting better at that? Yeah, at times.

"For heart and desire - we monitor everything, the running stats, the sprints - all the targets they are hitting.

"Working hard has not been in question, so it's important that we keep that focus.

"The quality of play in the last couple of homes games has been outstanding.”
