Preview: Walsall v Crewe

31 January 2020

Walsall will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday's defeat to Morecambe when they host Crewe Alexandra at the Banks's Stadium tomorrow.

The Saddlers are 14th in League Two while their opponents sit in third, occupying the final automatic promotion spot.

Darrell Clarke’s men will be looking to start February on a high and get back to winning ways.

FORM GUIDE

The Saddlers have lost their last two league games after a run of just two defeats in 11 league games.

Walsall have lost just two of their last seven home league games.

Crewe are unbeaten in four and have lost just two of their last 12 league games.

Away from home, the Railwaymen have won just one of their last eight in all competitions.

PREVIOUS MEETING

CREWE 1-0 WALSALL
August 17th 2019

Eddie Nolan scored the only goal of the game as Crewe edged past Walsall back in August.

The Saddlers made a bright start and missed a glorious chance through Caolan Lavery early on.

Crewe improved in the second half and netted the winner after 61 minutes when Perry Ng’s shot deflected into the path of Nolan who found the net.

Former Saddler Olly Lancashire was given a second yellow card late on but Crewe held on for the win.

FROM THE DUGOUT

Darrell Clarke: “Crewe are a possession-based football team and they can open you up if you don't get in their faces and press, they'll pick you off.

"Also, they can be got at, like most teams in this division.

"We've shown over a period of time that we're more of a match for any team this season but some of the results we've shot ourselves in the foot.”

REFEREE

The Referee will be Lee Swabey.

He was in charge when Walsall drew 0-0 with Stevenage at the Banks’s Stadium back in November.

The Ticket Office will be open from 10am tomorrow.
