Clarke looks ahead to Salford test

3 January 2020

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke believes today’s opponents Salford City are capable of challenging for the play-offs this season.

Clarke’s men head to the Peninsula Stadium this afternoon looking to avenge their 3-0 home defeat against the Ammies back in October.

Salford are 11th going into today’s match and Clarke is looking forward to the challenge of facing a strong Salford team.

"They have a talented manager with a big budget and a big squad of players,” he said.

"It's another team that I expect to finish in the top half and be competing to try and get in the play-offs.

"It'll be nice to visit a ground that I've never been to.”

The Saddlers have lost just one of their last eight league games in Sky Bet League Two.

Walsall started 2020 with a win and a clean sheet against Leyton Orient at the Banks’s Stadium.

Clarke wants to see improvement in results at home in this year but is also keen to see the Saddlers continue their good form on the road.

"The New Year gives us a bit of a reset too,” he added.

"We've won our first home game of 2020, can we win more?

"Our away form is top seven, the home form is probably bottom six.

"We want to be on the front foot and playing front foot football.”
