St John's crowned EFL Kids Cup winners

4 February 2020

St John’s Church of England Primary School won Walsall FC’s EFL Kids Cup competition on Saturday.

Pupils from St John’s came out on top over the other finalists from Leighswood, Landywood and Walsall Wood primary schools at the weekend.

40 local primary schools took part in this season’s tournament, run by Walsall FC’s Community Programme, with the first round of matches taking place in November and December to find our four finalists.

And in a tightly contested final against Leighswood, a late goal gave St John’s a dramatic 2-1 win. The school will now head to Port Vale for the League Two Area Finals in March.

Victors of the league’s North and South Finals will then have the unique opportunity to face each other at Wembley Stadium before the League Two Play-Off Final.

The competition’s certificates, medals were presented by first-team players Callum Cockerill-Mollett and Jack Nolan, while the Saddlers skipper James Clarke presented the trophy to St John’s at halftime on Saturday.

Congratulations the winners and well done to all the schools that took part this year.
