Mick Kearns grateful for support at tribute night

28 February 2020

Walsall Football Club paid tribute to club legend Mick Kearns on Friday 21st February in what proved to be a special evening at the Banks’s Stadium.

Former players, friends and supporters gathered in the Stadium Suite to celebrate Mick’s contribution to the club and took a trip down memory lane reliving some of his finest moments with the club.

Colin Harrison, Darren Wrack, Chris Nicholl, Martin O’Connor, David Kelly, Jimmy Walker, Adam and James Chambers were amongst the former players and managers in attendance.

Mick also had received videos from Dean Smith, Ray Graydon and Scott Dann.

It was a heart-warming night at the Banks’s and one that Mick thoroughly enjoyed.

“I was delighted to see so many people turn out on the night,” said Mick.

“It was a wonderful evening and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

“I’d like to thank all the fans, friends, ex-players and directors who came along. I’d also like to thanks Wayne Thomas and Adam Davy from the Community Programme for organising the event.”

Wayne Thomas from ACE Events said: “It was a fitting tribute for Mick. It was well supported by club legends and fans which culminated into a brilliant night. There was a real feel good factor and it shows how the club appreciate their own.

“We hope to do similar events with the club in the future.”

Community Manager Adam Davy added: "It was a real privilege for me to be involved, and play my part, towards the tribute night for Mick.  Having worked with him since 1994 I have heard the stories from his playing days and got to know, in close quarters, the impact he has had on the Football Club and the surrounding area.

“It was a pleasure to see so many friends, players and supporters come out to honour him and I know that he was humbled by the tributes and had a really great night.

“I have learnt so much from Mick.  He lists the Community Scheme as his proudest achievement from his time at Walsall FC and I am equally proud to now lead the Community Programme and build on the foundations that were laid by Mick."
