Mentality key for White ahead of Scunthorpe clash

29 December 2020

Walsall defender Hayden White says the Saddlers need to approach tonight’s clash against Scunthorpe United with the right mentality.

The Saddlers will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Salford City on Boxing Day when they take on Neil Cox’s side who currently sit 20th in Sky Bet League Two.

White is looking forward to getting back on the pitch at the Banks’s Stadium and while Scunthorpe are currently struggling near the bottom, he insists they will be prepared for a difficult task.

"I wouldn't get too obsessed about the league positions, every game in this league is hard,” said White.

"If we go into the game with the kind of mentality thinking it's going to be a roll over - it's not. Especially not in this league.

"I'm sure the gaffer will be preparing us as if it's one of the top seven sides.

"I know there's not any fans there but the boys do enjoy playing at home

"Hopefully we can continue that form on Tuesday night.”

White has featured in each of the last four matches and has enjoyed his run in the side but he is still looking to improve.

"I've still got a way to go to be firing on all cylinders but I'm happy to be playing,” added White.

"Whether that's right-back, left-back or centre-back - I'm just happy to be on the pitch.

"Everyone has been really good with me.

"There's a good bit of banter in the changing room. The boys have been good.

"I came in at the same time as Paddy and I'm sure he's enjoying it just as much as me.”
