James Clarke & Stuart Sinclair surprise our oldest season ticket holder

9 September 2019

Saddlers duo James Clarke and Stuart Sinclair paid a surprise visit to our oldest season ticket holder Ernie Foster on Monday afternoon.

The pair, who have been a consistent force in the team since joining the club this summer, were keen to be involved in the surprise when they found out all about 97-year-old Ernie.

As part of the surprise, the club were delighted to present Ernie with a cheque for the price of his current season ticket courtesy of a fan who wishes to remain anonymous.

The anonymous supporter, who lives overseas but has himself been a Saddlers’ Fan since the 1945/46 season, contacted the Club following Leigh Pomlett’s takeover at the end of July and has expressed his desire to annually donate the price of a season ticket to the Club, to be gifted to one worthy fan per season and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving than Ernie.

Ernie, who turns 98 in December, has been a Walsall season ticket holder for 25 years but his association with the club goes back nearly 90 years after he became a fan at the age of eight.

He was part of the submarine brigade in the Second World War, going as far as Barbados during his time in the Royal Navy.

The Club would like to thank Ernie for his fantastic support and we look forward to seeing him at the Banks’s in the coming weeks.

The Club would also like to place on record its gratitude to the anonymous supporter for his kind donation and future pledge.
