Walsall boss Darrell Clarke has called on his players to show a stronger mentality ahead of a busy week for his side.
The Saddlers fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Cheltenham Town at the Banks’s Stadium on Saturday and will be looking to respond when they travel to Oldham Athletic tomorrow evening.
Clarke was left frustrated by the defeat to Cheltenham but insists he will take responsibility and the team won’t be found hiding.
“We're not hiding, we're not shirking it,” Clarke said.
“I'm so frustrated because I wanted to be in a lot better position than we are now.
“That's why I come out and say we're nowhere near a top seven team and that's my responsibility.
“The players can give me a lot more. A lot more as in mentality, more nous.
"What I will say is take it out on me, not my players, they know they're not good enough at the minute, I know they're not good enough at the minute.
"We have to support them and help them and turn them into the players I know they can be.
“We'll dust ourselves down and we have another game Tuesday.”
Walsall have two games in the space of four days as they face the Latics tomorrow night before they take on Mansfield Town at the Banks’s on Saturday.
Clarke is keen to see his side cut out sloppy mistakes and is now fully focused on tomorrow’s visit to Boundary Park.
"I'm looking for the next game,” he commented.
"They're all massive.
"It's a strong league, but I'm not saying it's a very good league.
"It's a league that if you show a bit of quality and stop giving rubbish goals away and do things right, it's not hard to shoot up the table.”
