Walsall host Forest Green Rovers tonight in the final game of the Leasing.com group stage.
Victory for the Saddlers will see them top Group D South and progress to the last 32 of the competition.
A win or penalty win will see Rovers progress to the knockout-stage so both sides there is everything to play for at Banks’s this evening.
TEAM NEWS
Dan Scarr will serve his suspension against Cambridge United on Saturday so will be available for selection this evening.
Forest Green welcomed back defender Nathan McGinley at the weekend. Kevin Dawson is close to a return but Dayle Grubb and George Williams are long term absentees.
FORM GUIDE
The Saddlers ended their six match losing run with a 2-2 draw at home to Darlington in the Emirates FA Cup.
Mark Cooper’s side are unbeaten in four and have lost just one game since August 31st.
HEAD TO HEAD
Walsall and Forest Green have met just once and that was back in August when the sides drew 1-1 at the Banks’s Stadium.
Joseph Mills netted from the penalty spot to put the visitors ahead just before half time but the Saddlers fought back to draw courtesy of James Hardy’s 86th minute goal.
FROM THE DUGOUT
Darrell Clarke: “We need to win football matches.
“Some players need minutes to get their match fitness levels up. We’ll be putting a team out there to win the game, that’s for sure.”
Mark Cooper: “We want to win. There’s prize money we want to win, and we understand we have games to play, players that need to play and some that need to recover.
“The team will be different, but we want to win the game.”
PLAYED FOR BOTH
There are a couple of players who have played for both sides.
Midfielder, Isaiah Osbourne had a season at Forest Green Rovers sandwiched between two spells at Walsall while defender Scott Laird spent 18 months at the New Lawn between 2017 and 2019 and has had two loan stints at the Banks’s.
