Walsall boss Darrell Clarke was frustrated by his team’s missed chances after they were forced to settle for a replay against Darlington.
Despite being down to 10-men, the Saddlers fought back from a goal down to go 2-1 in front but conceded a 97th minute equaliser and had to settle for a draw.
Clarke admitted Darlington deserved a replay for their performance but was disappointed his side didn’t take their chances and see out the game.
“We’ve had a lot more golden chances and haven’t taken them,” Clarke said.
“You watch in disbelief sometimes at the chances that we keep throwing away
“We were running the ball to the corner, I’d rather us go and score a third goal.
“That’s the way my mindset is but the lads are taking it to the corner and I thought ‘no, go for the third, go for the jugular.
“It was a typical FA Cup tie, you have to give Darlington credit.
“I’m not going to stand here and say they didn’t deserve a replay, they’ve had a few chances themselves.”
Clarke felt there weren’t many positives to take from the game but insists the team will continue to work hard to try and improve.
“There are no positives for me,” he admitted.
“I’m not going to stand here and say its positive drawing to Darlington at home.
“No disrespect to Darlington as well, credit to those guys.
“But we have to crack on with it and get on with our job - that’s what we get paid to do.
“I keep working to the best of my ability and had my successes.
“I want to bring success here and I’ll keep working until I do.”
Walsall now turn their attention to the Leasing.com Trophy where they take on Forest Green Rovers where victory will ensure passage to the last 32.
