Clarke aiming to build on midweek victory

14 November 2019

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke is keen to see his team build on their 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers when they take on Cambridge United on Saturday.

The Saddlers will be looking to end their six match losing run in Sky Bet League Two but will be buoyed from their victory in midweek.

Clarke is hoping to see a confident Saddlers team on Saturday but admits no two games are the same and is expecting a close game.

"Every game is different,” admitted Clarke.

“The pressure will be on because of our league form.

“You're looking at the players to react and to build on that confidence they created on Tuesday night.

“There's so many different predicaments that can happen through the course of a game and we want to concentrate on winning the next game.

“It'll be another fine line game with another competitive team coming to our place.”

Colin Calderwood’s Cambridge United will visit the Banks’s on Saturday.

The U’s are currently 12th in League Two but Clarke feels there isn’t too much difference between the teams in the league and has challenged his team to find consistency.

"Anybody can beat anyone on their day, I don't think they'll be any team that runs away with the league.

"I don't think Cambridge are any different to any other team in the division, they have strengths and weaknesses.

"Anybody can beat anyone on their day; I don't think there will be any team that runs away with the league.

"The top half teams find that bit more consistency but I don't for one minute think they're much better than the teams below there.”

Tickets for Saturday’s game will cost just £5 for all supporters and Clarke hopes to see a big crowd at the Banks’s.

"It'll be great if we get a decent attendance and the fans get behind the lads.

"But it's up to us to lift them at the minute.”
