As we turn our attentions to two crucial cup fixtures, Chairman Leigh Pomlett, has spoken of the importance of the Saddlers’ excellent support continuing here at the Banks’s Stadium.
This weekend we entertain Oxford United in the second round of the FA Cup before turning our attentions to the knock-out stages of the Leasing.Com Trophy with the visit of Chelsea next Tuesday.
Saturday represents our fourth straight Saturday home game in succession and, although Leigh is aware of the financial strain this can cause, the Saddlers’ Owner has stressed the important role supporters can play as we look to make it through to the next stage of two important - for different reasons - cup competitions.
“Our recent form has been much improved and it is very pleasing to be on a run of five games without defeat,” explained Leigh.
“We now enter a very important phase in the cup competitions. I am very conscious that we have had a succession of home games which, though entertaining, is also expensive particularly as we lead up to Christmas.
“We now have two more home games with Oxford United our visitors on Saturday and Chelsea’s youngsters next Tuesday. I am also aware this all costs money but I would really appreciate the continued support of our fans and all I ask is that you do all you can to attend these two very important matches.
“Both are very important and if we can still be in these competitions as we head into 2020 it will give the club a real lift, so please come along if you can and get right behind the team like you have been doing throughout the season so far.
“I think, despite our league position, we are beginning to see that this team is making real progress and the players are really benefitting from the fans support.
“It would be just great to get through to the Third Round of the FA Cup and the last 16 of the Leasing.com. With your support, we can achieve just that.”
Walsall now turn their attention to the Emirates FA Cup as they host Oxford United in the Second Round this weekend.
