Saddlers sign Stuart Sinclair!

21 May 2019

Walsall FC are delighted to announce the signing of experienced midfielder Stuart Sinclair.

The 31-year-old is best known for his five-year spell with Bristol Rovers, where he won back-to-back promotions to League One under Saddlers boss Darrell Clarke.

“It’s exciting times,” said Sinclair, who also played under Clarke at Salisbury, earning another promotion.

“It has been a tough period for the club but now it’s all about getting that excitement back and moving forward and being successful.

“I was at Bristol Rovers for a long time and I enjoyed a successful period with them. It’s a new challenge now and that is exciting.

“It’s a great club and I can’t wait to meet the supporters and everybody at the club.

“I have a close relationship with the gaffer and I know what he can bring to the table. I can trust him and that is important for me personally.

“When he told me about things here at Walsall, I was extremely excited.

“I’m an honest and energetic kind of player and I will do everything I can to help us win football games.

“That’s what I have tried to put forward in my footballing career so hopefully that will come across to the supporters.”

Clarke, who signed Sinclair at Bristol Rovers, added: “He’s a lad I know very, very well and he’s shared many a promotion with me.

“He’s the sort of personality and character we need to be bringing into the changing room. He knows how to get success out of League Two.

“Not only does he bring on-field ability, he’s a great lad and we need a bit of leadership in the changing room, more so this season.

“He ticks a lot of boxes and I’m delighted to have got him. He’s had plenty of offers on the table but I’m grateful he’s chosen to link up with myself and Walsall.”

Born in Houghton Conquest, Sinclair came through Luton’s youth ranks and played for Cambridge City, Bedford, Dunstable and Arlesey before signing for Clarke’s Salisbury in 2012.

The wholehearted, box-to-box midfielder featured prominently in the Whites’ 2012/13 Conference South promotion success and linked up with his former boss again at Bristol Rovers in June 2014.

Sinclair won the Conference Premier play-offs in his first season and played an influential role as the Pirates secured a second successive promotion in 2015/16.

He continued to feature regularly over the next three years as Rovers consolidated their third-tier status, making 162 appearances in total before leaving earlier this month.

Sinclair will officially join the Saddlers on 1st July when his contract expires at Bristol Rovers.
