Edwards relishing season finale

4 May 2019

Joe Edwards admits he is relishing the Saddlers’ 2018/19 season finale against Shrewsbury.

The Saddlers must beat the Shrews and hope other results go in our favour to retain our League One status.

And while there may be pressure on the team, the 28-year-old says everyone is embracing the challenge.

“It’s obviously a massive game but it’s quite exciting,” said the midfielder.

“It’s a game you’d rather be playing in than playing for nothing.

“It’s got the possibility of going both ways but it’s one of them you look forward to.

“It’s going to be a great atmosphere.

“There’s a big prize at the end if we get the right result and results go for us.

"It’s something I’m really looking forward to.

“You’d rather it not come down to one game and not be in your hands.

“But it’s a massive opportunity for us to put on a massive performance and get a fantastic result.”

Edwards achieved promotion from League One with Yeovil in 2012/13 but believes securing survival with the Saddlers would eclipse it.

“I’ve had promotion and relegation [in my career],” he said.

“I have a feeling, if it was to go our way, it may top the lot just because of the outside chance we’ve had in the last couple of weeks.

“To do it on the last day would be unbelievable.”
