Edwards hails Saddlers fans for final-day sell-out

3 May 2019

Joe Edwards has hailed the Saddlers fans for selling out their entire allocation for the final-day trip to Shrewsbury.

Over 1,600 Saddlers supporters will be in attendance at Montgomery Waters Meadow for a match we must win to stand any chance of avoiding relegation from League One.

Two other results must also go the Saddlers’ way and Edwards says the players are hugely grateful for the fans’ backing.

“For them to do that (sell out their allocation) after the season we’ve had is fantastic,” said the midfielder.

“We really appreciate that and that will give us an extra lift going into the game.

“The boys have spoken about it this week and it’s already given us a lift knowing it’s sold out and they’re going to be there behind us, backing us.

“If we can put on a performance and get a victory that will hopefully do the job for us, then we can send them home happy.”

Edwards insists the players must be positive in their approach – and make sure they carry out their side of the bargain.

“Our only job is to win the game,” said the 28-year-old.

“We can’t go into it nervous or timid or looking to stay in the game.

“We know we’ve got to go out there and win the game, like we had to against Peterborough.

"If we win that, the rest is out of our hands and we’ll have to just wait and see.

“We’re going into it fully prepared, knowing we have to win the game and we have to put on a big performance to do so.

“I think we’d be even more gutted if we didn’t win the game, knowing if we had won we’d have stayed up.

“We go into that with a full focus of doing our job.”
