Dobson devastated after relegation

5 May 2019

Captain George Dobson was left devastated following the Saddlers’ relegation on the final day of the season after a goalless draw with Shrewsbury.

The 21-year-old was quick to praise the travelling fans for their unwavering support throughout the season and admitted the team are all hurting.

“Obviously, all of the boys are devastated,” said Dobson.

“I can only start by thanking the fans for their support; they were unbelievable.

“In the second half, when we were attacking them, they were really pushing us on and they rallied us.

"We gave it a go but even if we did get the goal, it wouldn’t have mattered.

“I can only thank the fans for their support throughout the season.

“I know they will be hurting and we are too.

"At times this season, it just hasn’t been good enough and we have got to make sure we don’t have this feeling again.

“In the last two games, we have played well.

“We have kept two clean sheets, we played well last week and this week in the second half.

"But we didn’t get relegated at Shrewsbury, it was the patch from the new year through until March time when we didn’t collect enough points from the teams around us.

“In January and February, we played all of the teams around us and we didn’t win and that is what has killed us.

“We have got to bounce back.”
