West Midlands disabled representatives attend Saddlers' match with Barnsley

29 March 2019

Walsall FC welcomed disabled representatives from Wolves, West Brom, Birmingham and Aston Villa to our home match against Barnsley.

The supporters – all members of the Disabled Supporters Associations (DSAs) or disabled supporter groups at their respective clubs – had come together to experience a matchday at the Banks’s Stadium.

Together with Disability Liaison Officers (DLOs), DSAs across the Midlands are working together to improve the matchday experience for disabled supporters and their friends and family.

Organised by Laura Wright, DLO at Wolves, in conjunction with the DSAs, disabled supporter groups and Walsall FC DLO Laura Greenhouse, it was an opportunity to bring supporters together in a football environment.

Laura Wright said: “By getting disabled fans from the Midlands clubs together at a football match, we have highlighted the need that fans - even through the barriers of supporting rival teams - can work together to gain access for all. Everyone involved are all allies for access and want the same thing.”

Everyone at the match had a great time and generated interested from the home crowd and visiting fans.
