In what was a very close game from start to finish, the Saddlers built on their resilient performance against Bradford City last weekend by picking up a point against Burton Albion.

The first 45 minutes lacked any real chances from either side, with the Brewers offering just a little bit more attacking threat.

Just before the half-hour mark, the home side created the only notable chance of the half when Lucas Akins found David Templeton in the box but his shot was well blocked by Jon Guthrie on the edge of his own six-yard box.

In the second half, the Saddlers came flying out of the traps and were much the better side.

Just after the hour mark, Josh Gordon found himself in some space just inside the Brewers penalty area. His driven ball looked destined to find the back of the net but Akins was in the right place at the right time to clear the ball off the line.

A minute later and Bradley Collins was called into action to produce a fine save. Following a cleared cross, the ball fell to Luke Leahy on the edge of the box and his curling effort looked like it was about to find the top corner, only for the Albion keeper to tip it onto the roof of the net.

With 20 minutes left to play, Liam Roberts was forced into his first meaningful save of the afternoon as full-back Colin Daniel tried his luck from 25 yards out. His dipping effort swerved in the air with Roberts happy to parry it to safety.

Moments later, the Saddlers raced down the other end with a blistering counter-attack. Zeli Ismail flicked the ball around his man and then found Matt Jarvis in the box but the winger could only direct his effort into the side-netting.

As the clock ticked down, the Saddlers went in search of a winner but found Collins in the way once more.

After some fantastic work down the left by Jarvis, his inch-perfect cross found Gordon eight yards out but his powerful header was denied by the left hand of Collins.
