Keates pleased with clean sheet and Saddlers' second-half performance

2 March 2019

Dean Keates was pleased with the clean sheet and his side’s second-half performance in the Saddlers’ goalless draw at Burton.

Luke Leahy, Matt Jarvis and Josh Gordon each went close for the visitors but neither team could find the breakthrough.

“On balance, we possibly deserved more, especially after the second half,” said the boss.

“First half, both teams were a little bit cagey. We spoke about it at half-time and felt we had enough 10, 15, maybe 20 per cent left in the tank.

“Second half, full credit to the lads. We raised it second half and I was happy with the second-half performance.

“We were on the front foot and dominated the second half. For a 15-minute period we were camped in their half.

“Matt Jarvis was unlucky with one he’s put just wide of the post. Their keeper pulled an unbelievable save off from Josh Gordon’s header.

“Luke Leahy bent one towards the top corner and the keeper got his finger-tips to it.

“On reflection, it’s a clean sheet and that is a positive for us.”
