Guthrie: Saddlers have been working hard all week ahead of Burton

2 March 2019

Saddlers defender Jon Guthrie says the team have been working hard in training this week on how to nullify today's opponents Burton Albion.

Earlier in the season, the Brewers walked away from the Banks’s Stadium with all three points following a comfortable 3-1 victory and Guthrie believes the Saddlers "owe them one".

“On the day, in the first half they were too good for us,” said Guthrie.

“We have been working hard in training this week on how we nullify their threat and put it right this time.

“We owe them one from the home game.”

The defender, who was recalled to the starting XI last weekend after missing out against Coventry, believes the Bradford victory has given everyone a big boost.

“We knew the importance of that game,” continued Guthrie.

“With what happened – the red card after five minutes – to go on and win the game gives everyone a big boost.

“They are the best wins, when you put absolutely everything into a game.

“You could see all the players, all the staff, all the fans – everyone gave absolutely everything.

“Before the Bradford game we had been on a tough run, it was difficult getting through that but now we have got that win it’s about building.

“We know the position we are in, we aren’t kidding ourselves. We know we have to pick up those wins sooner rather than later.

“Bradford has to be the standard from now on. It has to galvanise us as a team. We have to build on it and use it as a platform.”
