Leamington 1-1 Walsall

9 July 2019

The Saddlers had to settle for a 1-1 draw in what was a tough outing against Leamington at the New Windmill Ground.

In a competitive first half, the home side came close to opening the scoring after just 25 seconds as Reece King flicked the ball goal-bound but it went narrowly wide.

As the game settled down, the Saddlers grew into play even more and came close themselves after 12 minutes as a Liam Kinsella corner was nodded on target by Callum Cockerill-Mollett but it was well saved by Tony Breeden in the Leamington goal.

Halfway through the first half, Elijah Adebayo came close to opening the scoring following some quick feet on the edge of his box but the big striker wasn’t able to put his shot on target as it dragged just wide of the far post.

Two minutes before break and Adebayo came close again. This time round, the striker chested the ball down from a long diagonal from James Clarke before curling it towards the top corner but Breeden was able to claim it second time round.

Just under 10 minutes into the second half and Trialist B nearly made his mark on the game as he was played in by James Hardy, only to see his shot well saved once again by the Leamington keeper.

11 minutes later and the home side opened the scoring, a little bit against the run of play some might say. After good work from March, the winger found Colby Bishop and the striker finished low past Jack Rose.

With 14 minutes left to play, the Saddlers equalised through Trialist D. After a lovely passage of play, the ball was worked inside to Trialist D and he cut inside to finish it calmly into the bottom corner.

As the Saddlers went in search of a winner, the Leamington defence stayed resolute and kept Darrell Clarke's team at bay and the scores stayed even.
