Blackpool 2-0 Walsall

Goals from Chris Long and Harry Pritchard were enough to secure all three points for Blackpool as several second-half chances went begging for Dean Keates’ side.

The Saddlers had the first chance of the game when on-loan Norwich winger Matt Jarvis beat Donervon Daniels before crossing to the back post where Andy Cook could only guide his header wide of the far post.

Three minutes later and the home side went ahead.

A through ball from Daniels found Long, who beat Dan Scarr for pace, before finishing low past Liam Roberts, with the ball finding the back of the net via the inside of the post.

Moments later and Roberts was on hand to deny Long his second goal in three minutes. The striker beat the offside trap but was denied by the Saddlers keeper down low to his right.

With nine minutes left in the first half, the Saddlers produced their best chance of the game when Nicky Devlin found Aramide Oteh in the box. The on-loan striker turned his man but his tame shot ended up in the arms of Mark Howard.

In the second half, the Saddlers were the far brighter of the two teams and 10 minutes in the onslaught started.

Shots from Jarvis, Cook and Oteh were all blocked in the six-yard box before an Isaiah Osbourne cross was nearly met by the head of Jon Guthrie, with the defender inches away from making contact.

With 65 minutes on the clock, the Saddlers were given a lifeline when Oteh was hacked down in the box and a penalty was awarded.

Up stepped Jarvis only for Howard to deny him, tipping away his firm effort to his right.

Two minutes later and Howard was there to deny the Saddlers once again.

There was more pinball in the box and, with claims for a second penalty waved away, Oteh turned Curtis Tilt six yards out only for his rising effort to be superbly tipped over by Howard.

With two minutes left, the home side put the game out of reach when Scarr was dispossessed inside the six-yard box and Pritchard poked the ball past Roberts.
