Leighswood win EFL Kids Cup

12 February 2019

Leighswood School are the winners of Walsall FC's annual EFL Kids Cup.

Winning pupils from the school in Aldridge will also join the Guard of Honour for tomorrow night's match against AFC Wimbledon.

Leighswood came out on top in the competition, run by Walsall FC's Community Programme, which saw 36 local primary schools compete in November and December.

The four finalists: Castlefort JMI, Blue Coat Junior, St Thomas of Canterbury and Leighswood, returned to the Banks's Stadium on 23 January to find an overall winner to represent Walsall FC.

After a tight final finished 1-1, Leighswood beat runners-up St Thomas of Canterbury on sudden-death penalties, and will now head to the League One North Finals at Doncaster Rovers in March.

Victors of the North and South finals will then have the opportunity to face each other before the League One Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium.

Congratulations to Leighswood and well done to all of the schools that took part!
