Dean Keates has hailed Martin O’Connor as a “great addition” to his backroom staff.
Walsall-born O’Connor returned to the Banks’s Stadium earlier this week to assist on the coaching side, initially on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
A dynamic midfielder, the former Birmingham City captain scored 30 goals in 178 appearances during three spells with the Saddlers, playing with Keates during the 2001/02 campaign.
“He’s someone I know really well,” said Keates.
“I shared a changing room with him and I know what his capabilities are.
“He’s somebody who knows the club well, having been here as a player previously.
“He’s watched us on numerous occasions this season and knows the players to an extent.
“He knows how I operate and I spoke to him regularly way before he even came into the club so he knows how we try to do things.
“He’ll be a great addition for us.”
