Devlin: 'time to man up'

18 February 2019

Defender Nicky Devlin has told his Saddlers teammates to "man up" following the defeat to Coventry City.

The 25-year-old admits there is a certain amount of frustration in the squad and has called for the team to bounce back against Bradford City, a match Devlin has described as "massive".

“It’s frustrating for everyone at the moment,” said Devlin.

"We have got someone up there (Andy Cook) who if we do create chances, he is going to score goals, but we aren’t giving him the opportunity to do that.

“That is probably a lot of his frustration as well. He isn’t getting opportunities to score goals.

“We aren’t creating anything but also we aren’t keeping them out at the other end and that isn’t a good combination.

“We’ve got to work hard together as a squad and as a club. The fans turned up; they’re doing their part, we aren’t doing ours.

“That is the bottom line. We have got to look at ourselves and the time for talking is over. We have to step up.

“The remaining 13 games are huge but because of where Bradford are in the table, it adds a bit more to what this game means.

“They will be coming to us and looking to beat us and drag us right in there with them at the bottom.

“It’s a massive, massive game and it’s time to man up.”
