Scarr: We need to back up Chelsea win

5 December 2019

Walsall defender Dan Scarr insists the Saddlers need to back up their Leasing.Com Trophy win over Chelsea Under 21s by getting a result at Port Vale on Saturday.

Darrell Clarke’s men produced a stunning comeback as they fought back from a two goal deficit to win 3-2.

Scarr scored the winner in injury time on Tuesday but has already turned his attention to Saturday’s trip to Staffordshire where he is aiming to build momentum.

“A win in football is only good if you can carry it forward into the next game and build the momentum,” Scarr said.

“We need to start having good little runs now in the league so that we can push on and get some points on the board.

“Coming from behind against a good Chelsea side is good for us and hopefully we can now take this confidence into Saturday’s game against Port Vale and replicate what we did in the second half.”

Scarr believes the Saddlers are capable of causing any team in the division problems if they play on the front foot and he is keen to see the Saddlers impose themselves on Port Vale this weekend.

“If we start the game against Port Vale like we did in the second half against Chelsea, then I don’t think many teams will be able to live with us,” he commented.

“If you look at games like the Forest Green Rovers league match earlier in the season where we took our game to them, pressed them high up and got in their faces, I don’t think many teams are able to live with that.”

Scarr’s goal in midweek was his third in a Walsall and his second of the season.

Both of his goals this season have come in the Leasing.com Trophy but he is desperate to also net in the league.

“I’ll take my goal in the game but I just need to start scoring in the league now,” Scarr added.

“I suppose I got a bit lucky with my goal. I think Gaffney has shanked the cross and it has fallen to me in the box. If we keep putting balls in the box and you keep testing teams, you’re going to get lucky at some point.”

Tickets are still available for the trip to Vale Park and will go off sale at 1pm on Friday 6th December.
