Sadler keen to 'put things right' against Leyton Oritent

30 December 2019

Walsall defender Mat Sadler says he is ‘desperate’ to put things right when the Saddlers host Leyton Orient on New Year’s Day.

Darrell Clarke’s side fell to a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Carlisle United on Sunday.

Sadler is pleased that Walsall’s next game quickly follows and is keen to get back on the pitch and bounce back from the setback.

“It’s helpful in the fact you want to get Sunday out your system,” he said.

“It’s a horrible way to end the game so I’ll be absolutely desperate to put things right on Wednesday.

“For me, it’s great that you get the opportunity to go again.

We all just want to be out there winning games in front of our own fans sending them home happy, sending us home happy and I tell you for one, we’re hurting the most out of anyone out there.

“It’s horrible when something like that happens at the end of the game but with the way the Exeter game went, we bounced back from conceding three goals, albeit taking a point, by winning 2-0 away so I’ll be echoing that.”

Sadler is now hoping the Saddlers can begin to replicate their good form away from home at the Banks’s Stadium and feels the team need to start grinding out results at home.

“I don’t want to make our home form an issue but our away form is very good and we’ve had some cracking wins on the road against teams who are right up there,” he commented.

“There’s not a hell of a lot wrong so we have to find away to grind it out and mentality getting ourselves over the line, especially at home but keep coming with us because I don’t think we’re too far away.”

The Saddlers now turn their attention to the visit of Leyton Orient on New Year’s Day.
