Liam Roberts looking to build on confidence

6 December 2019

Walsall goalkeeper Liam Roberts is looking to take the confidence he has gained in recent weeks into the busy festive period.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form since coming back into the side in mid-November and was recently rewarded with a contract extension.

Roberts was delighted to sign fresh terms and is now focused on helping the Saddlers find some consistency in their form and build on his own growing confidence.

“I’m over the moon to sign a contract extension,” he said.

“The gaffer and the coaching staff have installed a lot of confidence in me. I’ve been at the club for many years. I just need to continue improving and stay consistent.

“We’ve been a little bit inconsistent this season. We’ve had runs where we’ve done well and runs where we haven’t done well. It’s about getting that consistent form.

“The lads work hard day in day out but I think it’s about being more clinical in both boxes.”

Walsall return to league action as they make the short trip to Port Vale tomorrow and the keeper wants to see the Saddlers build on their win over Chelsea Under 21s as they aim to end the Valiants’ unbeaten run at Vale Park.

“Football’s great when you win so at the end of the day you’ve got to win as many games as you can,” he commented.

“Having a winning mentality should be number one to keep that momentum going so hopefully get another result and take it from there.

“It’s going to be a tough game. They’ve got Pope up top so they’ll be looking to win the second balls so we need to make sure that we’re quite narrow and pick up the second balls.”

Tickets have now gone off sale for tomorrow's game but Saddlers fans can pay on the day at Vale Park although there will be a £2 price increase on the day.
