Darrell Clarke looks ahead to Chelsea Under 21s clash

3 December 2019

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke is hoping his side can ‘dust themselves down’ ahead of tonight’s Trophy clash with Chelsea Under 21s.

The Saddlers will be looking to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Oxford United in the Emirates FA Cup.

Clarke is looking forward to tonight’s game and is aiming to progress further in the competition.

"We want to win every game we play, whatever competition it is,” he said.

"We have to dust ourselves down quickly and go ahead tonight.

"Chelsea have top class players and produce from a very early age.

"You can see why England in the lower levels are doing so well.

"We know it's going to be difficult but we have to approach it in the right manner and find a way to win the game.

"We’re looking forward to it.”

Clarke is keen to build on the positives at Walsall.

His side have kept 10 clean sheets in all competitions so far this season and wants to use that as a springboard going forward.

"We're trying to build a solid base here,” Clarke commented.

"You have to look at the course of the season; we’ve kept 10 clean sheets in all competitions.

"I'm just frustrated as we don't make enough of our key moments in games.

"We have to keep working hard with the players that are giving me everything.”

Tickets are still available for Tuesday’s game against Chelsea Under 21s.
