Clarke looks ahead to Carlisle test

27 December 2019

Walsall manager Darrell Clarke is looking to ‘reset’ his team ready for tomorrow’s home clash with Carlisle United.

The hectic festive period is well underway and the Saddlers are preparing to face the Cumbrians just three days on from their victory at Scunthorpe United.

Clarke and the players were straight back on the training pitch after their triumph in Lincolnshire and are focused now on facing Carlisle, an opponent he is not taking lightly.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game but we have got to reset ourselves now and refocus,” Clarke said.

“We were in on the 27th, in on the 28th and we will be ready for the game on the 29th. We’re working away and chipping away just to try and get as many points on the board that we possibly can.

“Like I’ve said before, League Two is very tight with the top teams. I think we put in great performances away at Swindon and Exeter and then against Forest Green Rovers at home where we played very well again back in August.

“I think you’ve got to appreciate that just because teams are on bad runs, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t going to be tough opponents.”

The Saddlers boss is keen to end the year on a high and send the Saddlers fans home happy.

“That’s what it’s all about isn’t it? Football is a fans game and I know that they will be there in their numbers cheering the boys on and we will be trying to build on this momentum that we have at the minute,” Clarke added.

Tickets are still available for Walsall’s next game against Carlisle United tomorrow at the Banks’s Stadium.
