Norman feeling more settled at the Saddlers

16 August 2019

Walsall defender Cameron Norman says he’s feeling more confident and settled at the Banks’s Stadium after a good pre-season and a positive start to the campaign.

The 23-year-old joined the Saddlers back in January from Oxford United and has established himself as a first team regular under Darrell Clarke so far this season.

Norman has admitted it took him some time to find his feet at Walsall but now feels a lot more confident.

It was tough,” admitted Norman. “My age as well, it was my first season in the league so I was trying to find my feet.

“But I knew if I kept working hard I would get my chance in the team.

“Obviously with results last season I knew I would get myself back in the team and I was eager to get myself back in to help the cause.

“I think this season has been very different for me. Since the new gaffer has come in, I feel I have found my place now.

“I understand my role a lot better and I feel a lot more settled, I’m happy with the start we have made and excited for the rest of the season.”

Walsall take on Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road tomorrow afternoon.

Crewe will be buoyed by their penalty shootout victory over Championship side Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup in midweek but Norman says the players are focused on their own jobs and is keen to build on their early season league form.

“I did see their result. It’s always good to beat a big team and I’m sure they will get confidence from it.

“But we know our jobs. And if we perform how we can perform and how we have performed, we should get a positive result”

“It’s been a good start. We got the win at Northampton and we felt we should have won against Forest Green.

A positive result on Saturday will keep that momentum going.”
